A new survey of veterinary professionals has highlighted the growing role of contextualised care in practice, with 98.2% of respondents saying owner factors influence how they manage chronic gastrointestinal (GI) cases.* The findings highlight the increasing importance of balancing the ideal diagnostic pathway with the individual circumstances of the patient and owner.
The survey, conducted by Carus Animal Health, also found that 95.4% believe subclinical GI inflammation is sometimes missed in practice, while 87.2% report challenges achieving owner compliance with diet trials in suspected food-responsive enteropathy cases.

Clinical decisions are rarely made in isolation; they are shaped by owner circumstances, patient welfare and practical considerations alongside the clinical picture.”
The survey also revealed strong interest in practical monitoring solutions, with 97.2% of respondents saying they would welcome a simple way to monitor GI health in NSAID-treated patients.

The survey respondents were predominantly veterinary surgeons, who made up 60.6% of respondents and registered veterinary nurses, who made up 29.4%.
