KRKA UK expands product range with the launch of Otomicol® ear drops

One of the world’s leading generic pharmaceutical companies, Krka, has announced the launch of Otomicol® ear drops and cutaneous suspension, the newest addition to its expanding portfolio of animal health solutions. Licensed for use in both cats and dogs, Otomicol® is specifically formulated for the treatment of otitis externa as well as primary and secondary infections of the skin and adnexa.1 This targeted, multi-action treatment provides veterinary surgeons with an effective tool for managing the complexities often associated with these clinical conditions.

Otomicol® combines three active ingredients – miconazole nitrate, prednisolone acetate and polymyxin B. The formulation targets a range of pathogens including miconazole and polymyxin B-sensitive, Malassezia and Pseudomonas spp. Additionally, as Otomicol® offers the same actives combination as the originator product, veterinary surgeons can be confident in prescribing this Krka solution.

Otitis externa is one of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in dogs, with a prevalence of 7.3 percent.2 Certain breeds are particularly vulnerable and with the growing popularity of poodle crosses, the prevalence of ear disease has risen. Labradoodles are three times more likely to be affected by ear infections compared to traditional crossbreeds, while cockapoos have more than twice the risk.

Otomicol® addresses the significant challenges of treating ear disease, which is often complicated by mixed secondary infections. Effective treatment, if an infection is identified, is key and Otomicol’s targeted action enables veterinary surgeons to provide timely and effective care to support optimal clinical outcomes.

Renzo Di Florio, technical vet at KRKA UK, highlights, “With its multifactorial aetiology, ear disease is often challenging to manage, causing frustration for owners and significant discomfort for pets. Otomicol® is a cost-effective solution that veterinary surgeons can add to their treatment toolbox for cases where bacterial and fungal infection are important factors.”

Otomicol® ear drops and cutaneous suspension are available in a convenient 15ml bottle with an extended shelf life of six months after opening. This feature minimises waste and helps improve cost-effectiveness.

Otomicol® is available to order now from veterinary wholesalers. For more information contact KRKA UK by emailing animalhealth.uk@krka.biz
