Four vet practices recognised for support of charity Pet Blood Bank UK

Veterinary charity Pet Blood Bank has recently announced the winners of their Heart of Pet Blood Bank Award, with Dick Vets Hospital for Small Animals, Pool House Veterinary Hospital, Lawrence Veterinary Centre, and Lime Trees Vets all being recognised for their outstanding support over 2019-20.

The Heart of Pet Blood Bank Awards aims to recognise inspiring people, practices and dogs who have supported and been involved in the charity in collecting and distributing blood products.

The Host Venue Award celebrates practices providing the Pet Blood Bank with space and facilities to run donation sessions, and who go above and beyond to support the charity and its work.

The Dick Vets Hospital for Small Animals at Edinburgh University received the top prize as winner, after showing their support by hosting donation sessions since 2015, with them growing into successful events over time.

Pool House Veterinary Hospital in Lichfield and Lawrence Veterinary Centre in Nottingham were runners up in the Host Venue category for their dedication to supporting blood donation sessions. Both practices have hosted sessions since 2013, and alongside Dick Vets, continue to go down the extra mile to support the charity throughout the pandemic.

Lime Trees Vets in Stoke-On-Trent was also recognised with the Fundraising Award for their support, shown by their 2019 spinathon event. For 36 continuous hours, the practice team took it in turns to cycle on spin bikes to raise money and awareness for the charity. The event showed passion, enthusiasm and creativity and raised £1,780 in total.

All four practices were presented with their awards at a virtual awards ceremony hosted by Pet Blood Bank on Tuesday 2nd March 2021.

Nicole Osborne from Pet Blood Bank UK said, ‘The support we receive from veterinary practices across the UK continues to blow us away. Every practice recognised in our Heart Awards for 2019-20, and indeed many other practices who work with us, has made an outstanding contribution to supporting our work. As a charity, we are so lucky to have such wonderful, passionate, and dedicated people around us. It makes me so proud to be a part of this industry.’

Pet Blood Bank also offers a free advice service and on demand CPD webinars for veterinary professionals, alongside working as a blood donation service.
