Pet Blood Bank UK has been trialling the use of Chloraprep during their canine blood donation sessions in one region over the past few months. This is thanks to incredible support from Invicta Animal Health who provided the Chloraprep vials to the charity free of charge.
Chloraprep is a sterile skin preparation solution used to disinfect skin at surgical or medical procedure sites or for intravenous catheter placement. The Pet Blood Bank team used Chloraprep to prepare the donation site for needle placement in canine donors.
Following the positive feedback in the trial region, Pet Blood Bank is extending the trial to cover all its donation sessions within the UK until 31 August. This will allow for more feedback to be gathered to allow the charity to consider moving to the use of Chloraprep long term.

This will enable us to gather data from over 300 canine donors. We are very grateful to Invicta for supporting us by donating the vials and would like to acknowledge this generosity. As a small charity, this kind of support makes a big difference, especially when it improves our process and benefits our donors.’
