Two teams of veterinary staff from national charity Cats Protection are to go head to head in this year’s Vet Charity Challenge, to raise money for a raft of deserving animal charities.
The 2014 event will take place on 27 September at St Francis School, Pewsey, Wiltshire, so there’s still time to sponsor the teams in what promises to be a challenging but fun event.
The intrepid vets will be stepping outside of their comfort zones to walk, run, cycle and kayak through a physically and mentally challenging orienteering course, with all funds raised going to registered charities Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, SPANA and Cats Protection.
The two teams of four – Tabby or not T’be and The Cats Whiskers – each include three members of the veterinary department at Cats Protection’s National Cat Centre in Sussex, plus one non-employee to make up numbers.
Emily Billings, National Cat Centre Veterinary Officer said: “We decided to take part to represent Cats Protection, as we all enjoy being able to help to improve cat health and welfare and to contribute to the charity’s vision of a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs.
“We’re looking forward to challenging ourselves with lots of new activities (and of course raising lots of money), and hope this will be a very enjoyable team-building exercise too.
“There have been varying levels of training so far, with most of us starting jogging for the first time or digging our bikes out of the bike shed; we’re even hiring some kayaks for an evening. Every time we see a cat it inspires us to move a bit faster!”
