Rachel Sirdefield from RSPCA Exeter has been awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Animal Welfare and Rehabilitation by Bristol University’s School of Veterinary Sciences. After graduating as student with the highest overall mark in the programme she also received an award from natural pet supplements company, Lintbells, recognising her achievement and a prize of a £100 voucher.
Taking two years to complete, the part-time course enables students to understand dog behaviour and use rehabilitation techniques to improve the quality of life of dogs relinquished for rehoming. Rachel is looking forward to using her skills to improve the welfare of pets, helping them to integrate into normal family life and says she is absolutely thrilled to have received the award recognising her success.
Rachel received her award from Helena Tallack, Bsc, MSc – PhD scholar in Clinical Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol at the graduation ceremony in August. Helena commented, “My research investigates clinical dog behaviour and welfare so I was thrilled to present this award for a course which really empowers its students to make a difference to the quality of pets and people’s lives and relationships. It attracts highly motivated individuals, making Rachel’s achievement all the more impressive. We wish all our graduates well in their future careers.”
