Dignipets expands mobile end-of-life veterinary care into Plymouth and Exeter

Dignipets has expanded its mobile veterinary hospice and end-of-life service into Devon with the launch of Dignipets Plymouth & Exeter, led by veterinary surgeon Sophie Platt.

Having relocated to Devon this summer, Sophie brings extensive experience in end-of-life veterinary care, having spent several years working with a dedicated home euthanasia and hospice practice in Hampshire.

Throughout her career, Sophie has developed a particular passion for caring for senior pets and supporting families through difficult decisions. She will work closely alongside local veterinary practices, providing hospice consultations, quality-of-life assessments and peaceful home euthanasia visits when families would benefit from additional support in the comfort of home.

Commenting on the launch, Sophie Platt said: “The most rewarding part of being a vet for me has always been building relationships with my clients and their pets. The clinical work is great; I especially enjoy diagnostic imaging and medicine, but being the trusted, go-to vet for my clients is what I find most fulfilling.

“End-of-life care is such an important and unavoidable stage of pet ownership, and it’s a privilege to be able to help families navigate this peacefully. Joining Dignipets allows me to focus on the part of veterinary care that means the most to me, helping pets and their families feel supported, informed and cared for during one of life’s most difficult moments.”

At Dignipets, Sophie will offer specialist support that complements the work of local veterinary practices. All routine veterinary care remains with the client’s usual practice, with consultation summaries provided promptly and pets returning to their veterinary team for ongoing care where appropriate. Families also have access to hospice guidance, anticipatory grief resources, bereavement support and the free Dignipets Quality of Life Tracker app.

Commenting on the new partnership, Merel Taal, Founder and Director of Dignipets, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Sophie to the Dignipets family. Her experience in dedicated end-of-life practice, combined with her commitment to building lasting relationships with pets and their families, makes her a perfect fit for our values.

“As our network grows, we want more veterinary teams to have access to experienced colleagues they can call on when a pet and family would benefit from additional support at home. Sophie brings considerable experience in this area, and we’re delighted that families and veterinary practices across Plymouth and Exeter will now be able to access that support locally.”

The Devon launch forms part of the continued growth of Dignipets’ UK network, with three new veterinary partners joining since 2025. Dignipets’ mobile veterinary teams now provide hospice and end-of-life care across 24 areas of the UK, enabling more families to access compassionate hospice and end-of-life care at home while working collaboratively with local veterinary practices.

The organisation’s focus on quality of life, communication and personalised support aims to ensure that every pet receives care tailored to their individual circumstances and the needs of the people who love them.
