Daring Veterinary Leadership event to host free follow-up session open to new delegates

Following the success of the Daring Veterinary Leadership event in April, Veterinary Woman and XLVets are organising a free follow-up session for delegates who attended the event.

The event was filled with opportunities to network with others in the profession, and  included role model sessions and breakouts facilitated by trained coaches, alongside the main Dare to LeadTM workshop.

Daring To Lead

The Daring Veterinary Leadership programme also featured 21 role model stories from inspirational figures within the profession, including presidents of veterinary organisations, business owners, leaders in industry and practice, and referral hospital founders.

Tickets are still available to purchase to watch the event back, and people purchasing tickets will receive a copy of the Dare to Lead book by Brené Brown, which the idea for the event was centred around. They will also be able to join the follow-up meeting on Wednesday 30th June at 7.30pm.

During the six-hour virtual conference which ran on Thursday 22nd April, delegates were asked on a scale of 1-10: ‘Do you think you know how to get the best from your teams or colleagues and yourselves?’ The average score increased from 6.7 to 7.9 at the end of the event for getting the best out of the team, and from 7.1 to 8.2  for delegates getting the best from themselves.

The results from these polls highlighted how delegates’ belief in their ability to get the best out of themselves and their team increased throughout the event.

Kerrie Hedley, COO of XLVets, said “Research has shown that courageous leadership is teachable, observable and measurable. We are delighted to see signs of this global movement towards daring leadership being embraced within the veterinary world.

“We want to continue the conversation and provide some peer accountability to encourage all attendees to action some first steps in their working lives. Coming together again to discuss the progress we’ve made in the eight weeks following the event should provide a stepping stone to further actionable steps to really grow and put this into practice.”

Event feedback

The event achieved an overall rating of 4.9 out of 5 from those attending, with 86% saying they would recommend the event to friends and colleagues, and the remaining 14% agreeing that they probably would.

More about the event

A mentorship scheme was also launched during the event. Individuals who would be happy to either mentor or be mentored are invited to sign up here. Tickets can be purchased on the event website. Individuals interested in engaging with the leadership conversation are encouraged to join the Veterinary Women in Leadership Facebook community.
