The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) has appointed veterinary digital services specialist Vetstream as a Global Educational Partner. Under the terms of the partnership, Vetstream will offer Vetlexicon Canis, Felis and Lapis, the world’s largest peer-reviewed online clinical veterinary reference tool, to members of WSAVA member associations at preferential pricing. For 12 of the world’s developing countries¹ this will be free of charge. Vetstream will also support the other WSAVA member associations by offering discounted access to Vetlexicon outside the UK.

Vetlexicon provides comprehensive, peer-reviewed digital point-of-care information for the veterinary care of dogs, cats, rabbits and horses. Accessible 24/7 on any internet-enabled device, it is a unique expert knowledge resource, which is updated regularly and peer-reviewed by more than 900 of the world’s leading veterinarians.

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) aims to advance the health and welfare of companion animals worldwide through building an educated, committed and collaborative global community of veterinarians. It represents 158,000 veterinarians globally through 96 member associations.

Commenting on the partnership with Vetstream, WSAVA Honorary Secretary Dr Siraya Chunekamrai, said: “Our key focus is to raise global standards of veterinary care through the provision of educational resources and through supporting our member associations, which have such a vital role to play in developing the profession in their countries.

“Vetlexicon is a tool which gives veterinarians instant access to the latest clinical information and, through our new relationship, many of our member associations will be able to offer it to their members free of charge with others able to offer discounted access.  We expect this, in turn, to help our member associations to attract new members.  This makes it a win/win and we are looking forward to working with Vetstream to develop our relationship.”

Dr G Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, added: “We are already a supporter of the WSAVA Foundation’s African Small Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN) project which aims to advance standards of veterinary care in Africa by offering veterinarians in the five AFSCAN-participating countries 2 free access to Vetlexicon. Feedback we have received from the young WSAVA member associations in these countries confirms the benefit that it is bringing, both to the associations and to their members.

“We are great admirers of the WSAVA’s work, so moving our relationship to a new level seems a natural progression and we are delighted to be bringing our Vetlexicon services to its fast-growing global community of veterinarians.”

The Small Animal Veterinary Association of Belgium (SAVAB), a WSAVA member country, has for several years, provided Vetlexicon Canis, Felis and Lapis to all SAVAB members under a discounted Association Licence from Vetstream as part of their SAVAB membership at no extra cost to the individual.  Dr Bob Proesmans, its President, commented: “We are grateful to Vetstream for the Association Licence for the last five years.  It has undoubtedly proved a very attractive SAVAB member benefit and our membership has grown significantly as a result.”

He continued: “Personally, I use Vetlexicon daily, both as a tool in practice and to provide clients with relevant information.  I am impressed by the quality of the scientific information it contains and how easy it is to use.”
