Homeless pony wandering streets for food lucky to escape injury

011 Anoushka and Crystal 2A pony is now in the care of Blue Cross charity in Rolleston-on-Dove after she was discovered along a road in Wales looking for food.  Anoushka was lucky she wasn’t hit by a car before Cardiff Trading Standards collected her and brought her to the horse rehoming and rehabilition centre on Dovecliff Road.

Homeless and hungry, Anoushka was also pregnant with her foal Crystal when she was found. She was filthy and had sore, scabby skin and liver problems.

Tamzin Boyd from Blue Cross in Rolleston said: “On arrival to the centre we had to cut Anoushka’s tail shorter as it was so matted – it was clear she’d not been groomed for a while. Her coat was flat and dull and her skin was scabby, making her itchy.”

Despite her ordeal, the team found her friendly and were able to start her training programme. Her foal was born in October and they are now looking for a home for them both until Crystal is old enough to start the backing process.

Tamzin continued: “Sadly this is a classic example of when ponies have been left to fend for themselves, with no control over breeding. Crystal has a playful personality and loves nothing more than spending time in the field with her mum.”

Anoushka and Crystal are looking for a new home, ideally with another mare and foal so that the young ponies can keep each other company during the weaning process.
