RCVS Knowledge targets practitioner EBVM course

RCVS Knowledge has awarded Target Grants 2 to an international collaboration of EBVM Network members to develop a free online EBVM course for practitioners. The online course will allow veterinary professionals across the world to learn more about the specific skills required to make evidence-based decisions, such as study design, database search strategies and critical appraisal.

The project, lead by Dr Kristen Reyher from University of Bristol and Dr Rachel Dean and Dr Marnie Brennan from University of Nottingham, will combine the resources of team members from education centres in Germany, Canada, USA, Romania and UK.

The organisations collaborating on the project are:

University of Bristol, University of Nottingham, University of Cambridge, Royal Veterinary College, University of Agricultural Sciences & Veterinary Medicine Bucharest, University of Berlin, University of Edinburgh, University of Georgia, University of Glasgow, University of Guelph, University of Liverpool, and University of Prince Edward Island.

Dr Reyher says: “’We are thrilled to have the opportunity to lead on such a worthwhile project in an emerging field that has already proved essential to our profession. Our approach will increase the opportunities for students and members of the profession to engage in this exciting field, and will offer the flexibility to be re-used not only in independent learning, but also in a variety of teaching and learning scenarios across the sector.”

She adds: “As a global group, we are passionate about being involved in larger, long-term projects to push EBVM further into the consciousness of the profession, and believe this project moves us one step closer by bringing together key stakeholders and building an excellent fit-for-purpose resource.”

The EBVM course will be available free to practitioners under a Creative Commons licence and will be presented at EBVM Skills Day 2015, which takes place in London on 30 October 2015. For more information on the programme visit www.rcvsknowledge.org/events.
