Be an early bird and bag a BEVA Congress bargain
Register for BEVA Congress 2014 before 5th August 2014 and bag yourself a discounted ticket. The event, which will be held on 10 – 13 September 2014 at the popular ICC in central Birmingham, is the largest equine veterinary conference, and ostensibly the most important in Europe. The extensive CPD programme combines world-class science and innovation with day-to-day practical themes, while the social events have to be experienced to be believed.
This year’s Scientific Programme is spread over three days as usual, with five separate programmes running concurrently in five adjacent halls. The overriding theme for the event is a pragmatic approach to evidence-based medicine in an imperfect equine world, with the aim of making content as applicable and useful as possible to vets in practice.
Using traditional lectures, panel discussions, interactive forums and ‘how to’ sessions, panels of international speakers will cover an eclectic choice of topics, relevant to vets throughout all stages of their career, whether an undergraduate, leading Specialist or mixed practitioner. Vet nurses, farriers, equine physiotherapists and equine dental technicians can also enjoy sessions that are specifically focused on their particular areas of expertise.
Programme highlights include a day of racehorse-related topics in one of the halls, which incorporates presentations from Debra Sellon, Professor of Equine Medicine, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Washington State University and Dr Barry Ball, Professor of Equine Reproduction at the University of Kentucky. There will be a full day on the foot and farriery, including presentations from Dr Chris Pardoe PhD, BSc AWCF, researcher in comparative Biomedical Sciences at the RVC and Simon Curtis FWCF, HonAssocRCVS, practicing Newmarket farrier.
World-class performance science and practice behind the medals will include presentations from Rene Van Weeren, Professor of Equine Musculoskeletal Biology Department of Equine Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University, and Dr Lars Roepstorff, Professor Anatomy and Physiology Section, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. There will also be comprehensive sessions on dentistry, ophthalmology and colic, while the daily clinical research presentations provide exclusive opportunities to hear about novel and exciting research projects.
Professor Stephen May, Vice Principal of the RVC, will be giving the plenary lecture, taking a candid look at education: past, present and future. There will be two political/ethical discussions again this year. On the Thursday BEVA President Paul Jepson will chair the provocatively entitled Welfare charities at home and abroad: money well spent? On the Friday the controversial subject of medication and horsemeat will be debated under the title We can’t have our drugs and eat them.
The free BEVA Congress App makes it easy to view the full scientific programme, plan your day, view exhibitors information, keep up to date with events news and interact via Facebook and Twitter.
