ELANCO PIG TEAM LEADS HUNGER INITIATIVE

Elanco Animal Health has announced that their new expanded team focusing on improving pig health and productivity is now out in the field and ready to support customer needs. The team includes Joao Cavaco Rodrigues, Swine Business Manager; Greg Allin, Brand Manager; Alvaro Hidalgo, Technical Consultant; Nick Butler, Key Account Manager for UK South; Phil MacDonald, Key Account Manager for UK North; Alan Cox, Key Account Manager for Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

Some of the team will be familiar faces to those in the industry and producers can feel confident that the technical expertise and know how needed to boost productivity is now readily available to them.

Elanco is committed to fight world hunger and to this end, in April, Elanco will launch a new pricing scheme for Stellamune® Once and Stellamune® Mycoplasma with additional product support in the form of a charitable donation to FareShare.

FareShare is an award winning national charity that aims to support communities in the UK to relieve food poverty and reduce food waste. Each day an average of 35,500 people benefit from the food redistributed by FareShare and last year it contributed to 8.6 millon meals.

It is estimated that daily, in the UK, 5.6 million people go hungry and worldwide 25,000 people die from hunger and malnutrition. A recent report that looked at how to feed world population in 2050 identified some significant challenges: a burgeoning population, increasing urbanization and a decrease in natural resources. A predicted population growth of an extra 2.3 billion people by 2050, to give a global population of 9 billion, will require a 70 per cent increase in food resources. In other words, in the next 50 years, agriculture will have to double production.

Elanco has identified that this is a significant challenge and is doing all they can to support producers to meet those stretch targets.

Greg Allin, Elanco’s Brand Manager for the Pig and Poultry sector says, “Most producers are already working as efficiently as they can to maximize productivity without compromising animal welfare, so the idea of having to double production in what is a relatively short period of time might well feel totally out of reach. We are looking forward to working with FareShare to help ensure food is used and distributed more effectively and working with vets and producers to help them produce enough nutritious food to address world hunger.”
