Learning, Laughter and Sunshine the Key Takeouts from VMG Congress 2023

More than 300 delegates attended this year’s VMG Congress in Stratford-upon-Avon, during which they were urged to rise out of their comfort zones, challenge their assumptions, embrace their inner energy and lead their organisations through the ‘global mega trends’ to come. They also heard from inspiring keynote speakers, including Darren Edwards, paralysed after a climbing accident, who has gone on to lead a series of record-breaking expeditions. In a moving address, he reminded delegates that how they respond in difficult times is what’s most important.

The event, the VMG’s first standalone congress in recent years, took place from 7-9 June and featured many speakers new to the veterinary sector, as well as innovative features including an uplifting ‘walk and talk’ along the River Avon in the sunshine on Friday morning, attended by more than 40 delegates.  According to the VMG, feedback from delegates has been universally positive with many praising the friendliness and positive energy around the event.

Commenting, VMG Director Liz Somerville said: “We set out to create a different kind of congress – one that was tailored to the specific needs of our members and which would enable them to learn, share and grow in a friendly, informal and inclusive atmosphere.

“It’s clear from the feedback we’ve received that our delegates relished the thought-provoking content on offer in the educational programme and were equally enthusiastic about the opportunities to share their experiences and learnings informally with others during the social events.  It was inspiring to see so many of them participating actively in the sessions and building relationships with their fellow delegates.”

She added: “I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make VMG Congress such a success, including, of course, our Platinum Partner, PetsApp, and our other kind sponsors and exhibitors.  Hosting our own congress was an important milestone for the VMG as we work towards our goal of empowering our members to deliver 21st century leadership and management.  We are delighted at the positive response to the event and are already making plans for a return to Stratford-upon-Avon for our 2024 Congress.”

VMG Congress 2024 takes place on 25-26 April at the Crowne Plaza, Stratford-upon-Avon.

The VMG is the professional association for all those in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector.  It empowers and equips veterinary leaders and their organisations to learn, share, and grow.
