Merial champions charity vets in star-studded gala awards
In a star-studded night of celebration, the third Riding for the Disabled Association Gala Awards recognised the support of the hundreds of equine vets who work with RDA Groups across the UK. ‘The RDA Vet of the Year’ category, sponsored by Merial Animal Health, was won by Nathalie Cole of Liphook Equine, for her work at the charity’s National Championships. The award was presented by broadcaster and RDA ambassador Clare Balding.
Vets are recognised for the help they offer RDA, the times they have gone ‘over and above’ to help a pony or horse and the difference their support has made to an RDA Group.
“So many of our Groups rely on the extraordinary support and expertise of their local equine vet,” says RDA Chief Executive, Ed Bracher. “We know how grateful our volunteers and riders are for the care their ponies and horses receive, and this award is a great chance to say ‘thank you’ from all of us at RDA. Nathalie is a very deserving winner for the dedication and commitment she shows to RDA – not least in giving her time at the Championships for free.”
“The work of the RDA in providing both therapy and pleasure to people with disabilities across the UK relies upon the generosity of its volunteers and from donations,” said Jo Gater-Willats of Merial Animal Health. “Merial is extremely proud of its long-standing relationship with RDA, and is delighted to be able to continue to support the health and well-being of the organisation’s hardworking horses and ponies, and protect against the ever present threat of Equine Influenza.”
Held at the famous Long Room at Lord’s, the home of cricket, the event was hosted by Clare Balding and joined by journalist and broadcaster Alastair Stewart; Anneka Rice; commentator Jonathan Agnew; rugby legend Scott Quinnel and Paralympian Natasha Baker.
