Louise Kelly MRCVS and Phyllis Pratt RVN opened the doors to their new practice in Lancaster in early December, making it the 246 practice to open under the Vets4Pets and Companion Care group.

Louise who graduated from Cambridge in 2004 has always wanted to work in the beautiful Lancaster area and was looking for a new career challenge when she and Phyllis decided to get in touch with Vets4Pets.

“I see this as wonderful opportunity to work in this fantastic area of the country in a practice where we can provide an excellent standard of care to both patients and clients in a happy and positive working environment. One of the nicest things a client ever said to me, in a thank you letter, was that whenever she came to my practice she felt as though she was coming to see friends – and felt welcomed and at ease at what was generally a stressful time, when she was worried about her elderly dog. We very much hope to create an environment like this at Vets4Pets Lancaster.” said Louise when asked about her reasons for taken on her own practice.

Phyllis, who has had an interest in working with animals from a very early age, qualified as a Nurse in St Helens in 2002 and since has worked in independent practices, first and second opinion practices and most recently an emergency hospital.

“Working nights takes its toll on anybody so I am really looking forward to working sociable hours again. I am also a mum to my son Richard, who is already showing an interest in animals and my work. This is a wonderful opportunity for Louise and me, I feel privileged but most of all excited. It was like a big early Christmas present for us!”.  Added Phyllis.

“Louise and Phyllis first came to us back in 2011. They were both very clear on what they wanted from their practice and where they wanted it. Lancaster proved to be a challenge for us. We won’t just grab any property; we need to be 100% sure that the location has a chance at being a successful practice. It’s in our interest to ensure it does as it is for our Joint Venture Partners. But we didn’t give up! And a couple of years later they have their perfect practice in their preferred location. I wish them both the best of luck in their new business”. Malcolm Norman, Louise and Phyllis’ Partner Relationship Manager.

“We are happy to have finally found a site which gives us the advantage of working with the great Pets at Home team to enable us to give a more holistic approach to the care of our patients” added Phyllis.

There are many reasons why Vets and Vet Nurses choose to become Joint Venture Partners, ranging from clinical freedom through to being your own boss. For Louise and Phyllis it was very much about taking control, running the practice the way they feel best and most importantly without worrying about the business elements.

“A Joint Venture Partnership is a great way to be able to create a practice whilst being able to concentrate on our client care, and not be stressing about management issues because of the business support provided from Vets4Pets.” added Louise.
