Vets Now’s ECC Congress announces impressive line up for 2023

Vets Now has today opened bookings for the UK’s only dedicated emergency and critical care Congress for the veterinary profession, taking place on Thursday 09 and Friday 10 November 2023 at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.

Celebrating its 20^th anniversary this year, and building upon the success of previous years, this year’s Congress promises to deliver up to 75 hours of CPD to veterinary professionals looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in emergency and critical care.

With a focus on bringing fresh perspectives and a hands-on approach to the forefront, the 2023 ECC Congress programme boasts an impressive line-up of internationally-renowned speakers.

Vet professionals Simon Cook from the Royal Veterinary College in London and Megan Brashear from Purdue University Veterinary Hospital in Indiana are among several high-profile speakers at this year’s Congress. Dr Stephen Hearns, a consultant in aeromedical retrieval (human) medicine, who delivers pre-hospital critical care for major trauma patients, will open Congress as keynote speaker and a limited enrolment session where he’ll focus on performance under pressure.

Joining the all-star speaker cast are other industry leaders such Tim Travail, Chloe Fay, Dan Tipney, Jenny Guyat, and Ashton Hollworth. Additionally, Dr Craig Joyce, an educational psychologist will offer his insights into dealing with imposter syndrome.

Racheal Marshall, RVN and head of clinical nursing at Vets Now, teamed up with Simon Hagley, ECC specialist at Vets Now hospital in Manchester, to create this year’s veterinary and nursing programmes for Congress. Supported by Arlene Connor, RVN and head of clinical operations at Vets Now and IVC Evidensia, along with national ECC lead Dan Lewis, they’ve crafted an unmissable lineup.

Rachael said: “We have carefully tailored our programme again this year to provide an inclusive learning experience for vets and vet nurses no matter what stage they’re at in their career, from students through to specialists and everything in between. The biggest change this year, in our 20^th year of running the ECC Congress, is an entire day dedicated to advanced referral nursing, and a very hands on approach during all the CPD and practical workshops.”

One of the key highlights of this year’s programme is the unique approach to clinical content. Participants will have the opportunity to follow a trauma case from arrival to departure on the first day of Congress, gaining valuable real-time insights into the decision-making process and management strategies. Whereas on day two, speakers will delve into lessons learned, allowing attendees to further deepen their understanding of emergency and critical care practices.

In line with Vets Now’s commitment to offering an engaging learning experience, the ECC Congress programme is built this year to be interactive and more practical than previous years. Participants will have the opportunity to actively engage with speakers during interactive sessions, fostering a dynamic learning environment that encourages dialogue and knowledge sharing.

The Congress programme is designed around both clinical and non-clinical streams, with seven learning streams in total including a new Advanced Nursing stream and a new Interactive Case based Clinical stream. The non-clinical stream, centred around wellbeing, is set up to offer advice and practical tips on how best to look after ourselves and our colleagues.

Congress isn’t only about learning, however, as the Thursday evening features an amazing Animal Kingdom-themed Gala Dinner to allow delegates to engage and relax after a day’s learning. There are also opportunities to unwind with VetYogi, mindfulness and a morning running club.

The ECC Congress programme for 2023 is open to veterinary professionals of all levels, including veterinarians, vet nurses, students and graduates.
